About Us
The history of the AVGA
The AVGA was formed in 1956 to purchase the Village Green when it became known that it was to be dug up for gravel extraction. The purchase was secured through funds raised by voluntary subscriptions from the residents of Attenborough. The Association owns the land in perpetuity for the residents of the village, and the Trustees administer it on their behalf for recreational and village activities.
Village Green Activities
The Village Green is used by residents and sports people for Cricket, Bowls and Football as well as the location for the Church Fete and meetings for organisations such as Attenborough Garden Club and Probus. The car park is used by Attenborough Village Day Nusery for safe delivery and collection of children.
Membership
The past several years have been a very busy time for the AVGA with various issues including the building of the flood defences in 2012. The administration of the Green's affairs are carried out by volunteers and do incur costs. If you would like to become a member of the AVGA in order to help support and maintain the legacy, current membership is £50 for life per household. New Trustees
The Committee have appointed 2 new trustees of the AVGA who administer the running of the Village Green. They are Mike Aplin and Peter Stewart. Mike has been the groundsman at the Green for 20 years and Peter a long standing respected member of the Attenborough community. They join Mike Hammond and David Williams to bring the total number of Trustees back to 4 which is in line with the constitution of the Association.
Annual General Meeting 2024
